Pathenia Williams Gilbert

IMG 0674Pathenia is a native of Tampa, Florida. She was asked by her grandfather at the age of 10 what she wanted to be when she grew up and she replied with no thought or hesitation “A social worker”. From a young age, she always knew that she would help families and impact lives for the good. For well over 30 years, Pathenia has taken in young people who had no place else to go. She has mentored and poured into many young people over the years in various areas. She has a background in the medical field ( medical office management and Health Unit Coordinator), education (Child Development Associate) and social services.

Pathenia served one year as an Americorp Volunteer with a Violence Prevention Pilot Program at Bay Area Legal Services and the match was lit. The second year of the program she returned as a mid-level supervisor that oversaw 8 Americorp members in 6 Hillsborough County schools. During that time she sat on the domestic violence task force and also became a Victim’s Advocate receiving her training through the Attorney General’s Office. She has served on many committees and boards in the community over the years.

She decided to help children in a more tangible way in 1999 by becoming a foster parent. She has cared for many children both relatives and non- relatives. She is also an adoptive parent.

Pathenia decided to go back and complete her education at Springfield College where she earned her Bachelor degree in Human Services with a minor in education graduating Magna Cum Laude. The first job after graduating was in child welfare as a dependency case manager under Hillsborough Kids, Inc. She worked for many years in dependency and loved every minute of it. She has worked for Northside Mental Health, Success4kids and Families, Department of Children and Families and Alpha House of Tampa.

In 2009, she started Generation of Excellence, LLC which provided in-home services to families as well as contract case management. After working in social services and seeing clients from very different lenses depending on the agency Pathenia wanted to make a change. Her heart and passion is to be a person used to build and strengthen families in a more impactful way which is why she decided to close Generation of Excellence, LLC. She started working on creating a nonprofit.

Charity’s Place was birthed as a result of the traumatic experiences that she has witnessed in the lives of her family, friends, and community. She knew that she had to be a catalyst to bring healing to not only her family but other families in her community. She believes that Strong individuals make Strong families and Strong families make strong communities. Her motto is “the Charity (Love) of one can impact and change a life forever.
